The Bengal cat originates largely from the Asian Leopard Cat (ALC) and retains many features from this ancestor.
The Asian Leopard cat is a small cat found in parts of Southern Asia, average weight being 10 pounds.
The modern breed often weighs more than this fully grown as they have been breed from the ALC and domestic cats to bring in the nature which we know to be Bengal.
It is with thanks to Dr. Centrewall that we have the beautiful breed we do today. Bengals are now available in many different varieties many of which not taking on the recognisable leopard markings. The colours include Silver, Brown, Snow, Blue and Black to name but a few. With varying eye colours from blue to yellow.
There are also two types of pattern these being marble and spotted. Bengals have beautiful personalities and are an ideal pet for families, they are easily trained and will even play fetch with you! Although a warning must follow these cats are extremely clever ours have even been known to undo locked cat flaps!
They are an intuitive and beautiful breed and all of our new kitten owners have commented what a joy they are to have around the house.
